7 Upcoming Adventure Tourers to Rival Himalayan in India [200-500 cc – Updated]

This is a big list of Upcoming Adventure Tourers and they are set to rule the nascent segment…

The scenario of adventure tourers is very nascent in India. While the Tigers have captured the premium segment, towards the entry range we only had the Impulse (no more in production) and anyway it was too underpowered. At the moment, the only reasonably powerful and affordable motorcycle we have here is the Royal Enfield Himalayan but it has been terribly sub-standard in terms of quality. And hence we need more choices in this segment.. many more!

Many manufacturers have started taking this segment seriously and we have a reasonably long list of motorcycles headed our way. Let us take a look…

Upcoming Adventure Tourers – List

Designed by BMW Motorrad and manufactured by TVS in India, the G310 GS uses the same powertrain of the naked roadster. The 313 cc single cylinder mill churns out 34 PS of maximum power and 28 Nm of peak torque. The chassis is the same as the G 301R but the front wheel is now bigger (19 inch) while the front suspension gets extended spring travel.

With a typical upright seating position, the G310 GS appears to be a fun adventure touring motorcycle but we would love to get spoke wheels in place of those alloys! BMW first confirmed that they planned to introduce the baby GS in India towards the second half of 2017, however, it has been delayed. As we can read it, it may be introduced sometime late this year.

Xpulse is a surprise entry in this list. It was unveiled by Hero at this year’s EICMA and they have almost hinted that it will be taken to production. Expected sometime this year, it gets power from the 200 cc mill derived from the upcoming Xtreme 200S.

It was showcased as a concept which means that we can expect some changes in the production version. When it gets launched, it may be the most affordable adventure tourer India will have.

Unveiled in China just before 2016’s EICMA, the bike made an appearance at Milan as well under the more apt V-Strom brand. Powered by the same twin-cylinder mill seen in the Inazuma, it churns out 25 PS of peak power and 23.4 Nm of max torque.

Suzuki claims that they have focused on low and mid range torque. It gets an integrated luggage system, a compact screen for wind deflection which has been wind tunnel tested. Again, as a Suzuki, its not one of the best lookers in this list but that smooth motor can more than make up for that…

Towards the end of 2016, Mahindra surprised everybody by announcing buying rights of iconic Jawa and BSA brands. Apart from this, they also promised the introduction of four new variants based on the Mojo platform which also included an adventure version.

While there are no more details to talk about, we believe it could be a derivative of the Mojo Adventure Mahindra showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo (here). This concept motorcycle featured upside-down forks, off-road tyres – bigger front and smaller rear with spokes and massive ground clearance. Back then Mahindra had given a time bracket of two years of which about 9-10 months remain.
