Bajaj Chetak Going to 30 New Cities…

Bajaj Chetak availability: The company intends to take it to many more markets. Production plans will be increased from new Chakan plant…

The legendary scooter – Bajaj Chetak, which made its comeback earlier this year in an all-new electric avatar, has seen some fairly encouraging response from consumers. The company has sold over 1,000 units of the scooter ever since its launch.

It is to be noted that the scooter is currently available only in Bangalore, and Pune. The numbers would have been far higher if the Chetak was made available in more cities. Just in case if you are wondering, the company could not take it to more markets due to production constraints and also may be because Bajaj wanted to gauge the initial response from the market.

However, it seems to be changing soon, as Bajaj has planned a wider launch of the electric scooter in the coming days. In a recent interview, Bajaj’s Executive Director – Rakesh Sharma has hinted about the same.

He said that while other companies are keeping a watch on their finances, Bajaj Auto has invested Rs 650 Crores in Chakan, Maharashtra, to set up an all-new manufacturing plant to produce premium bikes from KTM, Husqvarna, and Triumph. It also plans to utilize the plant to manufacture the Chetak Electric scooters, as well.

During the interview, Mr. Sharma shared that the company plans to take Chetak to around 30 more cities through FY2023, meaning before March 2022. If it succeeds in doing so, the scooter is expected to fetch even higher numbers for the company. This is in line with its anticipation that electric vehicles will threaten IC engine vehicles in next 5-7 years.
