After Thailand, Yamaha XSR155 Launched in Indonesia

Yamaha XSR155 positioning in Indonesia is a little confusing as the company has placed it over the R15 and MT15, unlike Thailand…

Back in August this year, Yamaha officially unveiled the XSR155 for the world and Thailand was the first market which got this retro-styled modern motorcycle (more details). XSR155 is the smallest motorcycle in this ‘XSR’ series.

In a latest update, Yamaha has taken it to its second market – Indonesia. But for some reason there is a big change in the strategy. Because of lesser kit, in Thailand it is correctly placed under the R15 as well as the MT15. There is a price difference of 6000-7000 baht which equates to about Rs 15,000 INR.

However, in Indonesia, it is placed over both – the R15 as well as the MT15. It commands a premium of Rp 615,000 against the MT15 (about 3100 INR) and Rp 190,000 (roughly 1000 INR) against the R15.

XSR155 is equipped with the same 155cc, liquid cooled, fuel injected engine of the R15 which produces 19.3 hp of peak power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of max torque at 8500 rpm. It comes shod with upside down front forks and slipper clutch is a standard offering.

Yamaha XSR155

XSR155 has been a hotly anticipated motorcycle in the Indian market since its first global unveiling. This, coupled with the immense popularity of the 155 platform, it is likely that Yamaha considers the XSR155 for the Indian market. But, it should be placed under the R15 and bikers may not really appreciate it if its pricing goes over India’s favourite sports 150cc!

Yamaha has also debuted WR155 – another motorcycle on this platform along with the XSR155 in Indonesia. Click pic for details
