Yamaha WR155 launch may be on the cards since the brand has registered its patent in Indonesia. However, how aggressive will Yamaha get with it is not known…
Yamaha’s 155cc platform is a big hit in almost every country it is sold in. This is precisely the reason the Japanese brand is trying to create more motorcycles out of it, apart from the immensely popular YZF-R15 mini-supersport and streetfighter MT15.
It has already debuted XSR155 recently in Thailand and there are rumours of a Tracer 155 ADV as well. Apart from all of this, Yamaha has patented two trademarks – WR155 and WR155R in Indonesia (source).
To break it up, ‘WR’ is Yamaha’s international range under which it produces dual sport motorcycles and that number 155, quite naturally, signifies the engine capacity. Following this update, speculations are rife that Yamaha is working on small capacity WR155 motorcycles.
WR155 can follow the minimal bodywork of the WR range along with high travel suspension and be powered by the immensely potent 155 cc engine of the R15. However, chances are that the deltabox frame may be ditched in favour of the double cradle frame like in the WR250R which is also sold in Indonesia at 97,000,000 Indonesian Rupiah which is roughly equal to 4.87 Lakh in INR.
