After settling down with its bread and butter entry level models, Hero MotoCorp expanded its focus on the premium segment where it had been a laggard for quite some time. The end result was four 200cc motorcycles – Xpulse 200, Xpulse 200T, Xtreme 200R and Xtreme 200S. The Xtreme 200R has obviously been discontinued from the market but its place has been taken by a new-generation naked Xtreme 160R.
As a result of this, Hero has been able to double its sales in the 151-200cc segment in the financial year 2020-21 (check them here). This should come as an encouragement for the largest selling motorcycle maker. In a build-up for this, Hero has often revealed its plans for newer products that are under development at its CIT, Jaipur.
When a portal asked CFO Niranjan Gupta about the company’s plans regarding premium products, he said,
We had embarked on this premium strategy in terms of filling the portfolio right across all the CCs and all the segments. You have already seen us coming out with Xtreme 160R, you have seen us coming out with Xpulse and you will see more and more products coming out every year.

Niranjan also stated that its pipeline of new launches for the next 3 to 5 years has not been affected by the ongoing disruption due to COVID and all of them will be introduced as and when decided.
