Its a changing landscape – We list the upcoming maxi scooters in India in 2020 and 2021 and they will range from around 90k to about 3 Lakh!
Scooters in India are generally conceived as utility 2-wheelers which are used to either commute from point A to point B or to take some stuff along. And mind you we sell a lot of them every year. In fact, quite often the largest selling two-wheeler in India is a scooter!
But what has largely remained an untapped market is the sports scooter segment. Aprilia’s SR range stands out, which is followed by TVS’ Ntorq. But, things are changing and Suzuki took the lead in launching India’s first maxi-scooter – Burgman Street. This also debuted the international Burgman brand in India.
Following this, there are at least four new maxi-scooters that have been lined up for India in the near future. Let us quickly list them up..
Upcoming Maxi Scooters in India – List
Honda Forza 300

Honda has officially confirmed to bring its flagship Forza 300 maxi-scooter in India. It will be India’s most powerful and costliest scooter when it goes on sale this year. It is powered by a 279cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled engine which is good for 24.8 bhp of peak power and 27.2 Nm of max torque. However, it will not be cheap! We have analysed its price here.
Aprilia SXR 160
- Expected price – Around Rs 1 Lakh
Aprilia is also joining the maxi-scooter bandwagon with its SXR 160 which was unveiled for the first time at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. It will be powered by the company’s 150cc engine and come with features like all-digital instrument cluster, 12 inch alloy wheels, twin LED headlamps, eyeline DRLs, bigger and lit underseat storage, etc. It is expected to cost around or over Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom.
Burgman Street 150
- Expected price – Rs 90,000-95,000
Honda Patents CB4X – New Mid-Size Crossover
Suzuki has officially confirmed that the company is working on a 150cc version of the Burgman. However, it is not revealed if it will carry over the styling from the current 125cc version or will be it re-styled. Considering the potential volumes, we expect both the siblings to remain identical in styling and product differentiation can be created in terms of feature set and a few other bits like fatter tyres, etc.

Aprilia SXR 125
- Expected price – Rs 90,000
Yes, along with the 160 which was showcased, Aprilia has also officially confirmed that it will create a 125cc version of its upcoming maxi-scooter as well – replicating its SR strategy. The SXR 125 is expected look identical to the 160 sans a few features and probably colors. Chances are that the SXR125 may follow the 160 – so it can come either towards the end of this year or sometime next year.
