Smaller Jawa 300 Discontinued; Entry Into Brand Gets Costlier

Jawa 300 discontinued! Both single channel as well as double channel ABS variants taken off from the portfolio. ~2 Lac is now the entry into Jawa’s fold…

Classic Legends is already suffering from lack of interest in its motorcycles. As we have shared earlier, despite adding Yezdi in its portfolio with three additional motorcycles – all catering to different tastes – Classic Legends hasn’t been able to create any significant mark in the Indian classic motorcycle scenario.

But the good thing is that the company, backed by the mammoth Mahindra group, is trying. Earlier today it announced the launch of the bigger Jawa 350 – that now comes with the liquid cooled 334cc, single cylinder engine that is already available on the Perak as well as the 42 Bobber.

However, it comes with a major retuning of the engine – peak power is down by almost 5 PS and max torque is also 1.7 Nm lesser than the two motorcycles mentioned above. Ironically, despite that, it sits right at the top – at 2.15 Lac ex-showroom Delhi – higher than both the 42 Bobber as well as Perak.

Jawa 300 discontinued
This new Jawa 350 is the replacement of the older Jawa standard that came with the smaller 293cc engine…

Another surprising development is the fact that Classic Legends seems to have dropped the standard Jawa from the portfolio. The smaller Jawa is not listed on the website anymore and in its press note shared earlier today, Classic Legends has cleared that…

Currently, the Jawa portfolio comprises the Jawa 350, Jawa 42, Jawa 42 Bobber and Jawa Perak.

EXCLUSIVE: Classic Legends Suffers BIG Decline Despite Adding Yezdi

Debuting with the 293cc motor some years ago, it appears Jawa is moving away from this variant of the motor. From the four motorcycles in its current portfolio, three are based on the bigger 334cc motor. This means that Jawa 42 is the only motorcycle with the smaller engine and is now the entry into the small Jawa world.

Earlier, Jawa standard was available at around Rs 1.8 Lac (for the single channel variant) and was the entry into the Jawa’s portfolio. But now, this has risen to almost Rs 2 Lac which is roughly the ex-showroom price for the Jawa 42. To keep the portfolio accessible, Jawa could have kept the single channel ABS trim of the Jawa 300 on sale, at least for the initial few months. It also had a fairly big price difference of almost Rs 35,000 so cannibalization would have been very less.

How will this impact sales will be interesting to see in the coming months…
