Bajaj says Dominar sales will bounce back to expected levels…
Ever since it was showcased in its concept form as the Pulsar 400 Cruiser Sports, there has been a lot of interest in Dominar 400. It reached its peak when Bajaj stunned everyone by introducing it at 1.36 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)! As is expected in such a case, Dominar 400 should have been a massive rage among bikers wanting to upgrade to powerful machines without spending a lot.
However, that has not happened! The hype of Dominar 400 has not translated into its sales. Condition went so bad in May 2017 that KTM’s 390 siblings outsold it by a big margin (link to story). We do not have the official SIAM sales figures for June 2017 yet, but in an interview to Money Control, S Ravikumar, President of Bajaj Auto, said that because of GST dispatches were low and he pegs the figure to be around 2000 units. He accepts that Dominar 400 has underperformed in the short-term.
However, he said that every customer of Dominar 400 is ‘super happy’ with the motorcycle. He also stated that they have changed the marketing tactics for the motorcycle, which we have already talked about earlier. Mr Ravikumar also said that it will take some time but they are confident of Dominar sales reaching 10,000 units per month sometime within this financial year, including exports.
Earlier, Rajiv Bajaj has very vocally targeted Royal Enfield with Dominar 400 and has announced that their target in the mid-term with the motorcycle is to reach 10,000 unit sales per month. They have also announced that more motorcycles on the Dominar 400 platform will be introduced, details of which will be revealed soon.
