Yamaha R2, the latest entrant in the 200cc sportsbike segment, directly takes on the Hero Karizma XMR 210 in the Indian market
Yamaha India recently launched its all-new fully-faired sportsbike in the form of YZF-R2 in the Indian market. It was presented in three grades namely Base, Quickshifter and R2 M in a total of five colour options namely Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue and Metallic Gray. Yamaha R2 directly rivals Hero Karizma XMR 210 in our country. In this piece, we will carry out a detailed comparison between the two fully-faired sportsbikes with respect to their price, features, hardware and engine specs.
Yamaha R2 vs Hero Karizma XMR 210: Price
Yamaha R2 comes in a price range of Rs 2.30-2.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in the domestic market in India. On the other hand, the Karizma XMR 210 can be purchased at a sticker price of Rs 1.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The buyers can also opt for the Karizma XMR Combat Edition at a slightly higher price of Rs 1.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Hence, as we can see, there is a massive price difference of more than Rs 40,000 between the two motorcycles. So, the buyers looking for an affordable sportsbike for everyday ride will certainly choose the Karizma over the R2 while the buyers looking for something premium, upscale and high-performance will definitely go for the Yamaha R2.
Yamaha R2 vs Hero Karizma XMR 210: Features
The R2 comes equipped with a 5-inch full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. In addition, Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) is offered with three riding modes namely Street, Sport and Rain. A few other bells and whistles include traction control system, dual-channel ABS, Bi-Directional Quick Shifter, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and Smart Key System.
On the other hand, Hero Karizma XMR 210 gets a 4.2-inch TFT screen with Smartphone connectivity which gives the riders access to turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, and music controls. Since it has been on sale for quite sometime, it lacks latest set of features such as ride modes and traction control. As clearly visible, the R2 has an upperhand over the Karizma in terms of bells and whistles.
Yamaha R2 vs Hero Karizma XMR 210: Engine Specs
Sitting on a newly developed high-tensile steel tube diamond frame, Yamaha R2 is powered by a 204cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine which has been made and engineered in Japan in partnership with its Indian counterparts. It generates max power of 26.1 bhp and peak torque of 19.1 Nm. The R2 is the lightest motorcycle in its segment with an overall kerb weight of just 149 kg.
As for the Karizma XMR 210, it houses a 210cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol engine which generates top power of 25.1 bhp and highest torque of 20.4 Nm. The powertrain is linked to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. Despite having a smaller engine displacement, the R2 is powerful than the Karizma due to its lightweight construction.
