Two New Variants of Imperiale Under Works, Reveals Benelli MD

Benelli Imperiale variants are expected to come at different price points with distinct features to appeal to a wider audience…

Now, this is going to be interesting! For the first time in many years, Royal Enfield, the largest classic motorcycle seller in India, will face direct rivalry from not only Jawa (which is backed by Mahindra) but also from a relatively smaller (in India) brand, Benelli!

Benelli has fired shots bang on the Classic 350 with its Imperiale 400. Our road test editor Shiraz Shah has ridden the motorcycle recently for about 250 kilometers and though we are embargoed about sharing our findings we can just say that – brace up for a very formidable classic cruiser…

Initial response has been pretty good and though the booking numbers of three digits may not sound huge, they are the best ever for Benelli India! And that is not where it intends to stop. According to a report, Benelli’s MD Vikas Jhabakh, says that the company is working on two variants of Imperiale 400. This is a very similar approach to what Royal Enfield follows – introduce slight differences on one motorcycle and sell it under different names.

Imperiale 400 will definitely not be our last product in the segment. We are doing a couple of iterations of this product and various other engine sizes: bigger and smaller. On the R&D front, we’re working on 5 to 6 different products right now. How many we will bring to India will be based on the market feedback for different products,

He has added that there will be different engine sizes as well but that statement is a little confusing – as it isn’t clear if he continues that for the Imperiale or is it for some other upcoming products, like he specified in the next line.

Benelli has a scalable production capacity which can be expanded and Imperiale 400, along with its upcoming variants, may become the largest sellers for the brand. Not only that, Benelli has recently confirmed its 302S for India (more details) already!
