Bigger motorcycles from Hero are under works – this has been reiterated by Hero’s top honcho. We can expect them in the months to come…
It was believed that it would be difficult for Hero to continue its leadership in the 2-wheeler space after it broke up with Honda. This was primarily because it was Honda which provided Hero with all the technical support and this also meant that almost till the end it (Honda) did not allow Hero to set up its own technical set-up.
However, many years later, Hero is still at the forefront, leading the Indian 2-wheeler sales charts and that too by a fairly big margin. The prioritization strategy towards the bread and butter entry level models was important and that is what worked for Hero. However, now that it has settled down and saved its territory from rivals invasion, the focus now also includes premium and bigger motorcycles.
Hero very recently launched the Xtreme 160R which is doing fairly well and it has as many as three models in the 200cc space – all of which target different customer set. But that is not where Hero intends to stop. The company is working on bigger engines and premium segment motorcycles. In a latest interview to a portal, Pawan Munjal, chairman, MD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp revealed,
Our engineers in Jaipur and in our tech centre in Germany are working on bigger engines, premium segment bikes.

He said that the company is moving towards premiumisation of its portfolio slowly but it is getting there. He added that its newly formed distribution partnership with Harley Davidson is another step towards its goal.
