Himalayan ABS Launched at 1.79 Lakh; Non-ABS Variant Discontinued?

Himalayan ABS price increment is about Rs 11,000 for a dual-channel unit…

Royal Enfield was the only major motorcycle maker in India which did not have an ABS equipped motorcycle in India till a few days back. They recently equipped the fast-selling Classic 350 with ABS by launching a special edition called as ‘Signals’ (read details) – which created a big resentment from Classic 500 Pegasus owners. And they have followed it up by introducing the Himalayan ABS.

Like it has been the case with Himalayan earlier, Royal Enfield has not shared an official press release so far. But they have updated the website with the changes. Himalayan ABS continues with the same braking setup – 300 mm disc 2 piston floating caliper at the front and 240 mm disc, single piston floating caliper at the rear. The motorcycle comes shod with a dual channel ABS and carries an ‘ABS’ a sticker on the front forks. Ceats continue to perform OEM tyre duties in the same sizes.

Though it is not clear but it appears to be a non-switchable unit like it is the case with the international-spec models. In the process, Himalayan has gained three extra kilos of weight and it now tips the scale at 194 kg kerb!

Bookings are already underway at company dealerships and the non-ABS model may be discontinued by the brand after the existing stock at dealerships gets finished. However, we await an official confirmation on this. RE President Rudy has recently shared a new update on the Himalayan 650 twin; you can read it here.
