Now it is common knowledge that Ducati is secretly working on a new limited edition motorcycle which will be unveiled at EICMA next month. Expected to be christened as the Ducati 1299 Superleggera, the motorcycle is a super exclusive lightweight wonder (going by their track record). But wait do you know how much is it going to cost?
Well if somehow you manage to get in a queue to get your hands on the motorcycle, the Superleggera will cost an arm or a leg. Maybe the kidney as well! A report in Asphalt and Rubber reveals that the Ducati 1299 Superleggera will cost you 80,000 dollars (~Rs 53.51 lakhs)! That’s an awful lot of money for a motorcycle. For reference, even the maniac, supercharged, one-of-its-kind Kawasaki H2R (not the H2) bears a tag of 53,000 dollars (~Rs 35.45 lakhs).
The bike will be the first series production motorcycle with carbon fibre swingarm and frame and is expected to weigh just 157 kg. That’s super light for a motorcycle of this class. Afterall, most regular production motorcycles weigh just shy of 170 kilos. Add to that a performance exhaust which Ducati will most probably slip on and voila, you have a mighty beast under the control of your wrist.

To further sink in the price factor, the 1199 Superleggera had a price tag of 65,000 dollars (Rs 43.48 lakhs) while the Desmosedici RR had a tag of 72,500 dollars (Rs 48.49 lakhs) back in 2008! The upcoming 1299 Superleggera, which is known as Project 1408, is expected to get a race kit, which will probably include lighter connecting rods, crank and pistons. So, will the Red triumph over the Green?
