First Rumors of Yamaha WR155 Indian Launch Emerge

A report claims Yamaha WR155 Indian launch possible next year depending on the feedback the company receives…

As we have discussed earlier, Yamaha is planning to extract as much as it can out of its 155 platform. After the immensely successful R15 and fairly popular MT15, the company has recently introduced another motorcycle on this platform – WR155. The international WR range comprises of dual-sports motorcycles which are more biased towards off-roading than long hauls on the roads.

Indonesia became the first country in the world to get the WR155 and deliveries have just commenced there. In an obvious expectation, we would love to get the motorcycle here in India as well but there is nothing on it from the company yet.

However, the first chirpings or the initial rumors have started to emerge. A highly speculative report at Zigwheels claims that Yamaha is considering launching the WR155 in India. The portal has attributed the story to ‘its sources‘, and says that if the feedback is positive, the dual-sport motorcycle could be introduced by next year.

WR155 is powered by the same R15’s 155cc VVA engine which belts out lesser 16.73 PS of peak power and 14.3 Nm of max torque. It has minimal body panels and gets a 21-18 inch tyre combo (front and rear). Other important features include button tyres and higher travel suspension. One major downside is its very high 888 mm seat height, which is significantly taller than even the Hero Xpulse 200.

More worrying is the possible price tag it may adorn. In Indonesia, (after conversion to INR) the WR155 costs Rs 1.72 Lakh, (slightly) higher than the R15 (which is priced at Rs 1.68 Lakh). Obviously, the motorcycle will be placed in a niche segment between the Xpulse 200 and the Himalayan here. So, now you tell us, would you buy the WR155 over its bigger rivals?
