EXCLUSIVE: Yamaha Patents TRACER Brand in India

In India, Yamaha currently sells motorcycles under three brands – R, FZ and MT. We thought that it would bring its retro XSR range here, however, instead, it is merging a retro-looking motorcycle in its popular FZ range. You can check spy pics and details of the upcoming model here.

Yamaha has another interesting brand in its international portfolio – TRACER. Under this brand, it sells sports tourers in bigger engine capacities. And we just found out that the company has patented this brand here in India as well.

While a local patent does not guarantee a product’s launch but it does show that the company is either considering it for the market or may consider it in the future. Hence, it protects the brand name so that no one else can use it.

Currently, we could see Tracer 700 and Tracer 900 in different variants in international markets. The Tracer 900 is also on sale in Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia. So, there is a possibility that Yamaha may consider bringing the Tracer brand in India as well.

But the biggest news is the possibility of a Tracer 250. There are strong rumors that Yamaha is working on a 250cc Tracer (check report here) and if it indeed is under works, we would love to see it here in India.
