BUSTED: Upcoming Yamaha FZ-X Spied

This is the first uncamouflaged Yamaha FZX spy pic that has surfaced on the internet. It reveals a lot of important details about the upcoming bike…

When it was spotted testing few weeks back, everyone else was almost convinced that this is an India-spec XSR 250 for India. In our very first story BikeAdvice cleared that this is neither a 250cc nor the 155cc XSR (which is based on the R15 platform). We specifically said that this motorcycle is running on the 150cc FZ platform. Here is the link to our report.

We followed it up with another story linking the possibility of this being called as the FZ-X (Yamaha had patented this tag few months back). You can read that story here. And that is precisely what it is turning out to be! In its first uncamouflaged spy pic, few parts of the upcoming FZ-X have been revealed.

In a partial pic that has emerged online, we can say that the tank takes a lot of inspiration from the international XSR155, although it isn’t the same unit. There is a contrast colored tank extension with conventional telescopic shock absorbers which come with fork gaiters. The round headlamp may carry a projector or an LED main lamp and has round surround LED DRLs.

It has already been confirmed that this FZ-X continues to carry the same 149cc engine of the 150cc FZ range and produces 13.3 Nm of max torque. It is likely to produce around the same 12.4 PS of peak power.

Chances are that Yamaha may place it slightly over the current FZ range and it may carry a premium of a few thousand rupees over it. For reference, here are the prices of all the premium 150cc motorcycles that are sold in India.
