Hero Xtreme 160R Overview – In 6 Quick Pointers

This quick Xtreme 160R overview sums up the offering in quick pointers. We also discuss the possible price tags and its specs…

Xtreme 160R clearly stole the show at Hero World 2020. In the last few years not many Hero products, we remember, have clocked such a big, positive reception. And why not? The product looks impeccable and the specs are impressive as well. Let us quickly summarize the motorcycle in six quick pointers…

What is Xtreme 160R?

Xtreme 160R is a successor of Xtreme Sports which was discontinued recently. Unlike the last few times, the Xtreme 160R is an all-new motorcycle and surprisingly, it does not sit on Xtreme 200R’s frame either. It will be a motorcycle which will be the flagbearer for Hero in the premium 150cc segment.

Xtreme 160R Basis?

Neither is the motorcycle based on the Xtreme 200R nor on the Xtreme Sports. In fact, Xtreme 160R is the production version of the Xtreme 1R concept Hero showcased at the EICMA in November 2019. The good news is that the production motorcycle does not look a lot different from the prototype. It carries over its looks and styling apart from few other parts.

Xtreme 160R Engine?

Xtreme 160R carries a bigger 160cc engine (Xtreme Sports used 150cc motor from Unicorn). It is air-cooled, fuel injected and Bharat Stage 6 compliant. It is not known if this is a modified version of the same 150cc Honda’s motor or an indigenously developed motor.

Xtreme 160R churns 15 bhp of peak power at 8500 rpm and 14 Nm of max torque at 6500 rpm. These are very impressive figures for the segment, specially when most of the 150cc motorcycles are losing power in this transition to BS6.

Other Points to Note

As Hero announced during Xtreme 1R that its focus is on weight saving. 160R carries a new, lighter diamond frame and weighs just 138.5 kilos. Hero also claims that the motorcycle delivers segment best acceleration of 4.7 seconds for a 0 to 60 kph sprint – which is fast by all standards!

It also comes with a fully digital instrument cluster along with LED headlamps, LED tail lamps and LED side blinkers. Additionally, it also gets Auto Sail technology which prevents your motorcycle from stalling at low speeds and bumper to bumper traffic. None of this is available even on the higher Xtreme 200R yet!

Other features include side stand engine cut off, rear 130 mm radial tyre (same size as 200Rs) and two-tone colour shades (White Grey, Sports Red Grey and Blue Grey).

Xtreme 160R Price Expectation

We expect Hero to price the motorcycle aggressively since it has to make a mark in the segment. The 200R is expected to reach closer to the 1 Lakh mark with the BS6 upgrade. So, for a proper differentiation, Hero is expected to price the new Xtreme 160R around the Rs 90,000-92,000 mark ex-showroom. This will still mean that it will undercut its prime rivals like the new Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer comprehensively etc.

Xtreme 160R Launch

Hero has confirmed that Xtreme 160R will be launched as soon as next month in the Indian market. Like the 200R, we believe the motorcycle will reach markets in a phased manner. So the important cities may get it next month whereas the pan-India availability may take a few weeks.
