TVS Retron spy pics? Is it Ronin or something else? We try to decipher the test mule which is expected to be based on Apache 160…
A completely new and mysterious test mule has been spotted somewhere near TVS’ manufacturing plant in Hosur. This has left us puzzled over the possibilities.
The test mule looks to be in early stages of development and has dummy (or no) body parts – like the tail lamp, side panels, front end, etc. In fact the whole body will be bolted on this motorcycle later but the underpinnings – the frame, engine and other parts are being tested here.
That it has been spotted near a TVS plant and it looks similar to other TVS’ test mules (spotted earlier), there are all the chances that we are looking at an upcoming TVS motorcycle. But the question is – which one?
From the looks of it, presence of a rear disc brake tells us that this will not be a commuter (100-125cc) motorcycle. However, that commuterish seating posture and smaller distance between the rider and handlebar (suggesting a small fuel tank), gives us a clue that this will not be a big bike as well.

So, an ideal cubic capacity we could be looking at may be 150-160cc. That brings us to the company’s 160 platform that spawns the Apache 160 4V. This upcoming motorcycle may be an addition to this growing segment, however, something completely different from the ‘sports’ segment that the Apaches (160 2v and 4v) target – may be a retro classic – like the FZ-X.
TVS had patented names like Ronin, Retron, Zeppelin, etc in the last few months. Zeppelin is expected to be a cruiser (since the company showcased it as a concept back at an Auto Expo). This could either be Retron or Ronin, or something else. We should get to know some more details of this motorcycle in the days to come…
Meanwhile you can watch the first ride review of TVS’ latest introduction – Raider…
