TVS Regains 3rd Spot; Pushes Bajaj Down: July 2020 2-Wheeler Sales

The ongoing COVID-19 led disruption has impacted almost every automaker, not only in India but across the globe, significantly. Everyone has seen sales fall in monthly numbers and this has also caused a lot of changes in the overall standings. However, things are now seemingly returning to normalcy, as we can see overall sales numbers rising.

During the past few months, TVS was pushed down to the fourth spot by Bajaj. However, as it turns out, the Chennai-based maker is back and has reclaimed its 3rd spot on the back of robust sales during the month of July.

During the month, TVS registered total sales of 243,788 units of two-wheelers as compared to 265,679 units in July 2019. It indicates a YoY drop of around 8.23%. In the domestic market, TVS wholesaled 1,89,647 units against 2,08,489 units in July 2019.

Further breaking down the sales numbers, it sold 106,062 units of motorcycles in July 2020, as compared to 108,210 units in July 2019 (a drop of only 1.98%). Talking about scooter sales, the company sold 78,603 units as compared to 105,199 units in July 2019 (a YoY drop of 25.28%).

In terms of exports, TVS dispatched 54,141 units of its two-wheelers in the month, as compared to 57,190 units sold during July 2019 (a drop of 5.33%).

While all these YoY numbers surely indicate fewer sales, the drop was smaller as compared to its competitors whicl helped it regain the position in the hierarchy.
