Triumph 400 report card for the first year is out. We quickly discuss the showroom reach, total sales, markets & other parameters…
It has been one year since Bajaj launched the Triumph 400s in India – the roadster Speed 400 as well as the Scrambler 400X. Bajaj is manufacturing both the single cylinder motorcycles in India and is also the sole distributor of the brand now. It took over Triumph’s distribution around the similar time last year and let us quickly list the top highlights of the journey so far…
Showroom Reach
Before the transition, Triumph used to sell premium motorcycles and only had 15 dealers in the country in the top 9 cities. But since the 400s are mass market motorcycles in the sports space, Bajaj definitely needed a much wider coverage and targets were set!
And through a press release the company has informed that it has reached the big milestone of reaching 100 dealerships within this record period of one year. These showrooms are located in 75 cities of the country – which means prospects who were eyeing to own the Brit brand – but were from smaller cities – can also now buy them – with complete peace of mind – that the company will have all the sales and support for their motorcycle. And they do not have to travel to different cities to get their bikes serviced or problems rectified.
Sumeet Narang, President of the Probiking Business at Bajaj promises that this rapid expansion will continue in the second year as well.
Sales
Within this short period of one year – both Bajaj and Triumph has registered total sales of over 50,000 units globally – which is an average of more than 4100 units every month. Bajaj is taking care of the Indian market whereas the international markets are being served by Triumph itself.
It should be noted that these smallest Triumph 400s are being sold across 50 countries of the world that include biggies like USA, Japan, Germany, UK and Australia.
Aside this, to keep the customers engaged and use their steeds, Bajaj is organizing various types of rides suiting both the motorcycles’ characters. It conducts various brand rides to different locations spanning across few hours to multiple days. Then there are Triumph Bike Nights which are evenings filled with live music where owners can get to meet like minded people and socialize.
To catapult sales, Bajaj is also offering a Rs 10,000 discount on both the models as an anniversary offer for this month of July. Apart from this, Rajiv Bajaj has hinted that the brand will introduce the third model on this platform in India sometime this year.
So, a lot is happening on this front and we should applaud Bajaj for keeping us motorcyclists engaged and giving us very impressive international-quality, international-brand motorcycles at great prices…
