Third Triumph 400 Motorcycle Coming This Year, Reveals Rajiv Bajaj

Next Triumph launch has been confirmed by Bajaj’s chief. We discuss the possible segment, pricing as well as launch timelines…

Triumph’s partnership with Bajaj has ensured two terrific value for money products in the market already – the Speed and Scrambler 400. This has become possible because of complete local manufacturing of these motorcycles by Bajaj at one of its Indian plant.

While Rajiv Bajaj has cleared that the joint venture will not be chasing the dual cylinder 650cc segment of the Royal Enfield (more details), we do have some good news for all you people looking out for more products from the duo. Mr Bajaj has stated that, for now, the idea is to remain around that 400cc range – that gives a good position to be in, against the competition.

Now that the products, manufacturing and other aspects seem to be settling down, Bajaj has given a ray of hope of a new motorcycle coming out of this partnership. The upcoming model will be the third product that will, again, be badged under the Triumph’s moniker and will remain in the 400cc segment.

Answering a question to a TV channel, he said that there are several products in development and we can expect a new motorcycle this year. In the earlier part of the interview, Rajiv Bajaj has laid out the plan how the company is getting ready to manufacture 10,000 Triumphs a month by the festive season this year. Here is exactly what he said..

…And I stand by the statement that you refer to that every year there should be at least one, not just one, new distinct new Triumph motorcycle centered around the 400 cc displacement engine. And for sure it will be there. We expect a new motorcycle this year. And indeed for the next three years at least, there are several products in development right now.

Next Triumph Launch ? What…?

Well, a Speed 400 based cafe racer with a semi-fairing had been spotted testing earlier and this is what the next 400 could be. Expected to be labeled as Thruxton 400, this would give the body of Speed a lot of mass – something that end users have been wanting.

Since, it will be based on the Speed, we expect it to sit just under the Scrambler 400X. Launch can be expected sometime towards the festive season this year…
