Royal Enfield Announces Home Test Rides; Opens Oragadam Plant & Dealers

Like every other manufacturer, Royal Enfield also closed down all its plants on March 23, 2020 based on the Government’s advisory which was necessitated due to the contagious COVID-19 pandemic. Now after more than a month, amidst the extended lockdown, Government has provided some relief to all the industries.

The auto industry is also now allowed to function. After getting the Government’s nod on 1st May 2020, Royal Enfield has announced opening of its first Oragadam plant near Chennai. This will be the first factory that will resume operations in a staggered manner. The remaining two plants in Tiruvottiyur and Vallam Vadagal will commence operations in the coming days.

Royal Enfield has announced that its Oragadam plant will start with minimal workforce over a single shift. RE is only calling the staff which resides near the plant to prevent long distance travel as of now. The company also announces that it will abide by all the norms of social distancing and workplace sanitisation.

Along with this, the company’s 120 dealerships are also commencing operations. RE expects to have 300 dealerships operational by mid-May. However, all other offices which include corporate offices in Chennai, Gurgaon and the UK Technical Center will continue to remain closed and employees will be working from home.

To avoid the spread of the Corona virus, Royal Enfield will offer various facilities which will also include ‘home test rides‘ to customers. During these periods when buying sentiments are expected to remain tepid, Royal Enfield wants to reach out to its prospects so that it can increase its sales.
