20th Nov: At the unveiling of the new Shine SP yesterday, Honda officially (re)confirmed the launch of Hornet 160R in India next month. Hornet 160R is Honda’s 14th product and the 15th and the last launch of this year. However, barely 2-3 motorcycles have been exciting in this long list of majorly stickered updates.

One of them is the Hornet 160R which was unveiled at the August 4th RevFest in India. It is the first ‘exciting’ looking premium 150 cc from Honda and will replace Trigger in the market. Apart from the Unicorn brand, no other motorcycle has been able to penetrate in the sportier 150 cc segment from Honda.

Hornet 160R carries the internationally acclaimed brand name and is the smallest Hornet the world has seen. It will be powered by the same 162.71 cc single cylinder engine of the Unicorn 160 and according to an exclusive interview we had with Mr YS Guleria, the power output will be similar to Uni 160 (link to report).

Baby Hornet will slug it out against Yamaha FZ and Suzuki Gixxer among others and will come in two variants – single tone and sportier dual tone with CBS. Official bookings of the motorcycle are yet to open.

We expect Hornet’s prices to start at Rs 80,000 ex-showroom for the entry variant and finally Honda appears to have a motorcycle which will do it for them in this sub-segment.
