Upcoming Honda Hornet 160R Power Output Revealed [Exclusive]

We interacted with one of Honda’s top officials who revealed that Hornet will produce a similar power output as Unicorn 160.

The biggest and probably the only interesting revelation of Honda’s 4th August RevFest was the Hornet 160R, obviously apart from the launch of CBR650F! Honda kept the motorcycle on display but did not reveal its specs. At the ongoing SIAM Annual Convention 2015, we caught up with Honda’s Senior Vice President YS Guleria and posted a few questions.

On the Hornet 160R, Mr Guleria confirmed that the new streetfighter motorcycle will get the same 162.71 cc air cooled engine from the Unicorn 160, which was anyways known but there was an obvious expectation of a higher power output justifying the ‘R’ tag.

However, quashing all the possibilities, he informed that Hornet will continue to produce a similar power output of 14.5 bhp. We are not sure about the torque, however, in all probability it will be pretty similar in terms of numbers (14.61 Nm) as well.

So, in essence Honda is preparing a sportier motorcycle to replace Trigger which will be different than Unicorn 160 only in terms of design and will have a similar performance.

We already know that there will be two versions of the motorcycle on sale – single tone and dual tone and the display motorcycles were shod with MRF tyres along with petal disc brakes both at the front and rear.

Considering that there will be very limited mechanical differences, if et all, Honda should price the Hornet under Rs 80,000 ex-showroom. Mr Guleria also re-confirmed that the new sporty offering will be launched sometime within this year.
