BMW Sells 4200 G310s in 6 Months; Outsell Apache 310 Again

BMW Motorrad sales 2023 – The German achieves highest ever 6 month sales in 2023 with numbers 50 percent higher…

It is again an era of partnerships like the 90s and 2000s. Back then it was a compulsion (to have an Indian maker as a partner of an international manufacturer), however, today it is about business – segment expansion and new customer acquisition!

International motorcycle manufacturers are looking towards Indian makers for mid capacity motorcycles – simply because of our strong low cost manufacturing capabilities. The TVS-BMW partnership decided to make 310 platform that has so far spawned four motorcycles – three (G310R naked, G310GS ADV and G310RR faired sports) are sold by BMW whereas TVS only has the very brilliant Apache RR 310! But we know it is working on another one!

You all know that though they are very similar motorcycles underneath, BMW sells them at a premium. Surprisingly, despite the price gap, the Germans sell more motorcycles than the Indian counterpart. This trend has continued in the first half of 2023 as well.

BMW Motorrad sales 2023

BMW Motorrad Sales 2023 – January to June

BMW Motorrad has released its sales figures for the first half of the calendar year 2023 and they have managed to sell a total of 4667 motorcycles which is a growth of 50 percent over the same period last year. Out of this, the Germans inform that the 310s form almost 90 percent of sales which corresponds to roughly 4200 units – an average of 700 units a month.

Apache RR310 is the only motorcycle that TVS makes on this platform…

This is a great uptake and the 310s have again outsold the Apache RR 310 comprehensively. This clearly shows the power of brand recall. I would be very interested to know how much is the G310RR doing individually and compare it with the Apache (since both of them are just badge-change models). But alas! BMW may never reveal those figures. The good news, however, is that TVS is preparing its second motorcycle on this platform that will join the Apache RR 310.

This platform is jointly doing total sales of roughly 1000-1100 units a month and both TVS and BMW would definitely want to take these numbers higher, specially after the recent bookings storm of the Triumph-Bajaj Speed 400!
