Benelli Leoncino 500 Launch on 5 Aug; To be India’s Cheapest Scrambler

Benelli Leoncino launch will give India a mid-size scrambler which we believe could be priced at around Rs 4.5 Lakhs…

So, Benelli is becoming the next exciting motorcycle maker in India. With a renewed interest and a new partner, they have plans to bombard the mid-size motorcycle segment. With the recent introduction of TRK 502, we have already got a fairly well priced, beautiful looking ADV but there is more in store..

Benelli Leoncino Launch Date

Benelli had already confirmed Leoncino for India. They started teasing the motorcycle on its social channels and in the process they have also announced its launch date.

Leoncino5 August 2019

Autocar had earlier reported that the motorcycle will be launched only in one single version as confirmed (to them) by Vikas Jhabakh, MD of Benelli India. During DSKs times Leoncino was prioritised over the TRK and in fact, it was almost confirmed that the motorcycle will come in two versions.

Like TRK, Leoncino internationally has got two two versions – the road-spec as well as an off-road focused trim called as Trail. Both are powered by the same 500 cc twin cylinder engine of the TRK which churns 47 PS of peak power and 45 Nm of max torque. The motorcycle also gets 19-17 inch tyre combo and the difference between the two versions is that the Trails gets spoke wheels and knobby tyres.

At 170 kg, it is much lighter than the TRK and could become the most affordable scrambler, till you consider the extremely weird Royal Enfield Trials as one as well!

Now that we have an understanding of Benelli’s pricing strategy, we believe Leoncino will be priced more aggressively than TRK 502. A starting price tag of Rs 4.5 Lakh is what we believe should be apt and if they can undercut this, we will just be happier.

WHOA! Is Harley’s 338 a Benelli 302S Underneath?

If this is still a tad too high for you, worry not as Benelli is also preparing their Imperiale 400 which will go onto become their most affordable offering in India. Good times lie ahead for this Italian company which is managed by Chinese Qianjiang Group.
