Benelli Leoncino 800 has been designed in Italy and manufactured in China. This mid-sizer duo will go to various markets of the world…
China’s Qianjiang Group owned Benelli has unveiled its new 800 cc range of motorcycles – the Leoncino 800 along with Leoncino 800 Trail. These two motorcycles have been in development for a few years now and were first showcased at 2019 EICMA; and finally the production versions have seen the light of the day.
While the Leoncino 800 is a road-focused model, the Leoncino 800 Trail can be used for off-road adventures, as well. The motorcycles were so far available only with 500 cc engines (also sold in India), but Benelli has now introduced them in the 800 cc avatars as well, to take on rivals from Ducati, Triumph, etc.
Both the 800s share the same tubular steel trellis frame, that house a 745 cc parallel-twin engine. The motor churns out a peak power of 76 hp and a max torque of 67.79 Nm. This motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Other features include slipper clutch, Brembo brakes, and 50 mm Marzocchi inverted forks that offer rebound, compression, and pre-load adjustment with 5.1 inches of travel (5.5-inch on the Trail version). At the rear, the Leoncino gets adjustable monoshock suspension.
While the regular version comes with 17-inch tyres at both ends, the Trail variant is shod with 19-inch tyres at the front. At the moment, Benelli has not revealed the pricing of either of the motorcycles.
These new Leoncino 800s do not feature in the company’s list of seven upcoming models for our market. Both the motorcycles are compliant with Euro 5 emission norms (equivalent to Indian BS6 norms). This and Benelli India’s aggression, kind of, gives us an expectation that these bigger Leoncinos may come to our market.
