Rumour: Two Aprilia Launches at Auto Expo; RS150 Coming Then?

Aprilia RS150 Indian launch has been talked ever since it was first showcased almost two years back. It may become a reality this Auto Expo..

Piaggio showcased two very interesting 150cc motorcycles – RS150 and Tuono 150 at the 2018 Auto Expo. It labelled them as ‘concepts’ but in various interactions, many officials have clearly revealed that the company has intents to produce small capacity sports motorcycles at hinted displacements of 150cc to 250cc. Few months back GPR 150 – a motorcycle Aprilia sells in China, was spotted in Goa, sparking fresh rumours and confirming one thing – Aprilia is seriously considering venturing in the premium volume segment in India.

Now, almost two years after the first showcase of the very interesting RS150, there is a new report at Bikewale which claims that Piaggio will launch two two-wheelers at the Auto Expo 2020. It must be known that, unlike many major two-wheeler players, Piaggio/Aprilia will be participating at the upcoming biennial event.

The report further claims that one of them will be a motorcycle and the other one will be a scooter. The motorcycle in question should be the first product from Aprilia in the premium segment – quite possibly the production version of the RS150. The concept was not extravagant and hence, the commercial India-spec model may not go through a major styling change but with some levels of localised components.

It will sport a Bharat Stage VI compliant engine for sure and will rival the Yamaha R15 in India directly. The concept version was equipped with a 150cc, fuel injected, liquid cooled motor which was good for 18 bhp of peak power and 14 Nm of max torque.

The scooter is expected to be the top of the line 160cc to arrest Aprilia’s falling sales in this segment. So, at least Piaggio appears to have lined up something interesting for the motorcycling aficionados at the otherwise dull Auto Expo…
