Aprilia’s 150cc Bike Launch in Feb; May Cost More Than R15 [Speculation]

Aprilia 150cc motorcycle launch timeframes are now being discussed which means we are nearing its oncoming. Latest report reveals three new details…

At the 2018 Auto Expo, Aprilia surprised everyone by showcasing two very interesting 150cc motorcycles – faired sports RS150 and semi-faired tourer Tuono 150. Earlier in June this year, Diego Graffi, Managing Director & CEO of Piaggio/Aprilia in India revealed that the company is working on motorcycle(s) in this segment and they want to enter it with a ‘breakthrough‘ product! Aprilia 150cc Motorcycle Launch

In a new update, Bikewale reports that Aprilia India has begun final testing of its sports motorcycle and it will be manufactured locally. Local manufacturing is a must for motorcycles of this capacity and this inadvertently hints at the possibility of very high local content in the eventual product.

This helps in three ways – it keeps costs under check (since imported parts are levied heavy duties), spare part availability for customers is quick and easy and their retail prices are sensible. It says, the motorcycle will finally be launched at the 2020 Auto Expo in February.

What would eventually get launched is not known at this point – it could either be localised versions of RS150, Tuono 150 or even the GPR150 – Aprilia’s sports motorcycle (which it sells in China) which was spotted in India few months back. Being an Aprilia, expect stonker specs and great performance for sure. For reference, the concept RS150 produced 18 bhp of power and 14 Nm of torque from its liquid cooled, fuel injected engine.

However, do not expect it to come cheap as according to the report the final price of the motorcycle may even breach YZF-R15’s tag as Aprilia considers itself slightly more premium. No one, not even Honda, was able to hit Yamaha in this segment in India – will Aprilia bother?
