We Will Enter 150-250cc Segment with ‘Breakthrough’ Motorcycle: Aprilia

Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO of Piaggio (which owns the Aprilia brand) has often talked about how his company is preparing entry level sports motorcycles for India after showcasing the RS150 and Tuono 150 at the 2018 Auto Expo. In a latest he has shared some updates in a conversation with Money Control.

He said that Aprilia’s bike in this segment will be premium motorcycle in the mid-range with an engine size between 150cc to 250cc. He says that they are currently working on the plan to understand the ‘best offering‘ for the market. He adds,

We have seen lots of new introductions in the mid-range segment from our competitors. Our strategy is driven by the fact that whenever we enter the market we (need to) do that with something that is really a breakthrough product…

However, on the introduction timeline front he accepts that there has been a delay. Graffi says that they do not have a fixed time frame and they are working on an optimum between the eventual price tag of the product with respect to its local content.

At present, we do not have a fixed date. It has taken a little bit longer than what we had planned initially as we want to find the best trade-off between what is the expected price and what is the level of local content (in the bikes) we are introducing…
