2020 Unicorn BS6 Specs Revealed: Torque Up: Is 6 Kilos Lighter

Unicorn BS6 specs have been revealed by Honda at its official website. It shares few interesting changes in the motorcycle…

For some reason, Honda did not share the specs of its highest selling 150cc motorcycle – Unicorn – which was launched with Bharat Stage 6 compliance yesterday. It just said the new motorcycle has become more powerful.

But today we have the official numbers with us. It gets cleared that Unicorn, which was propelled by the extremely refined 149.2 cc motor till now, gets the bigger 162.7 cc engine from the Xblade and Hornet 160R. However, Honda has not tried to extract a lot of power from it, possibly to maintain refinement closer to that older mill.

As compared to the 12.73 bhp (at 8000 rpm) of power and 12.8 Nm (at 5500 rpm) of torque, the 2020 Unicorn is good for the same amount of power but it peaks 500 rpm earlier at 7500 rpm and 14 Nm of max torque at 5500 rpm, which is 1.2 Nm higher than before.

Despite a bigger engine, the new Unicorn weighs 140 kilos only, which is a significant drop of 6 kilos. So, even when the power figures have remained constant, the motorcycle is expected to be more responsive because of the bettered power to weight ratio (and the added fuel injection).

This weight drop on the motorcycle is a welcome change as most of the products are gaining flab in this transition to BS6. Honda hasn’t revealed the reason of this change but there appear to be minor ‘better-engineering’ processes in all the BS6 products. For example, all the new scooters are getting their batteries relocated to under the footboard for a better balance.
