So the moment a lot of you have been waiting for – the official touchdown of the 2017 Duke 390 and Duke 200 in India! Moments back Bajaj has shot in an official invite to BikeAdvice inviting us for the launch of the 2017 Duke range on 23rd February in Mumbai.
They have specified that the event is dedicated to the “launch of the all-new KTM Duke Range” which gives us a hope that even the 200 will be the new-gen model. There has been a latest rumour which claims that KTM may NOT introduce the 2017 Duke 200 in India and instead, it will be the existing model with minor graphic and colour changes (labelled as the 2017 year model). This, they say, is being done to keep costs under check (link to report). We are clueless at this point!
For the bigger 390, it will, undoubtedly, be the all-new international model which packs in fresh and aggressive styling, more torque and other changes. According to reports, there is expected to be a price increment upto the tune of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 on the current ex-showroom price of the motorcycle but that would bring it too close to the 2.25 Lakh of the 2017 RC390 and this cannibalisation, we believe, KTM will try to avoid.
