2015 BMW S1000RR gets more horsepower and HP4’s electronic gadgets

Chaps at asphaltandrubber.com had earlier brought to us spy images of the new BMW S1000RR sportbike being tested on public roads in Europe. The same chaps have now published some wonderful pictures of the bike from the recently concluded Intermot Show while also confirming that the new motorcycle has indeed gained six more horses during the revamp.

Not only that, the bike has shed four kilograms off its kerb weight and completely tanked-up it now weighs in at 204 kilos. Moreover, this Beemer’s handling was already sublime but the company has gone ahead and changed the frame geometry, which is all new now – the steering head angle, wheel castor, wheelbase, and swingarm pivot have new coordinates in the 2015 bike. The frame itself is lighter and makes for one of the components responsible for the overall weight reduction in the new bike.

The increased brake horsepower comes majorly from a cylinder-head revision on the 998 cc inline-four engine while also getting help from a larger airbox and shorter intake lengths. The weight reduction has been primarily helped by the removal of the front silencer on the exhaust, and even the new battery is lighter by almost a kilo!

We had informed you earlier that the HP4’s electronic wizardry would be carried on to the 2015 S1000RR and that is precisely what has happened. The new bike gets HP4’s semi-active suspension (BMW’s Dynamic Damping Control) while also getting cruise control in the process. Of course, petty things, like ABS, are standard. So while the upcoming Kawasaki H2 will undoubtedly produce at least 20 bhp more than the new S1000RR, it has become absolutely clear that BMW ain’t going to take it lying down.
