Yamaha Likely to Unveil India-Spec Grande Based Scooter at Auto Expo

Yamaha Grande launch will give the company a push in the premium scooter segment…

With the exception of Bajaj, all mainstream two-wheeler manufacturers in India have identified the scooter segment as the main growth driver and rightly so. This is precisely the reason we are witnessing a barrage of scooter launches and Yamaha is following suit.

After striking the chord with Fascino, Yamaha is preparing their next scooter for our market. Few months back, our reader Ram Shankar shared with us this exclusive spotting of the upcoming scooter being tested in Chennai. He informed us that there was a clear Yamaha logo on the pillion grabrail and another one near the tail lamp, which were the clear giveaways.

Upon close observation this appears to be very similar to the Nozza Grande scooter Yamaha sells in few markets like Vietnam (also called as Filano in some markets). There it sports a 125 cc motor which is good for 8.2 PS of peak power and 9.7 Nm of max torque and weighs only 99 kg. It comes with alloys on 12 inch wheels, front disc brake and front fuelling system.

Grande Launch

This mule was being benchmarked against Jupiter as well as Activa 110, which hints at the possibility of Yamaha plonking the same 113 cc motor of their current range into this one as well, but let us hope against hope that it is a bigger motor!

Yamaha Grande Launch

Yamaha is expected to showcase the India-spec version of Grande which they were testing in India at the Auto Expo next month. And a launch may follow in a few months. Grande could become the new top of the line in both the cases (one – if it is a 125cc or even if it is a 110 cc) in the portfolio.
