Next 400 From Hero Could be a Scrambler; Name Filed

A trademark related to Mavrick Scrambler has been filed by Hero MotoCorp that suggests that the company is eyeing that segment…

Hero has managed to offer us one of the most value for money motorcycle in that 400cc segment – the Mavrick! It is still early days to talk response and sales conclusively, but the motorcycle does pack in a lot of oomph and it is a very interesting offering for people considering buying such mid-sizers.

It is well known that the Mavrick is based on the same platform as the Harley Davidson X440 – which is also manufactured by Hero MotoCorp. So, that makes it two motorcycles on this impressive 440 platform. What next?

So, we already have early hints at what could be the next product. Hero MotoCorp has filed for a patent of the name ‘Mavrick 440 Scrambler’. With that name it is clear that the company is eyeing that Scrambler space that has seen a lot of action lately.

Currently the trademark is under ‘Marked for Exam’ stage

A Mavrick-based scrambler with that loads of bottom and low end torque will be a very interesting offering – something that many recent sporty scramblers are not very strong in. Couple all of that with knobby tyres, increased suspension travel, increased ground clearance and we have all the makings of a motorcycle that should appeal to a lot of folks who like occasional off-roading.

However, with that Mavrick prefix, it appears that the Scrambler could simply be a variant of the original motorcycle and not a separate product – with many distinctions. We hope we are reading it wrong.

With just a name in hand, it is not known how soon can we expect the product to hit the market but it could be sooner as the company will have to have at least 2-3 products to suffice to the needs of its premium dealers. Let us wait for some kind of a concrete leak then…
