Yamaha XSR155 launch in India-like markets is giving us hopes that the company may consider the retro classic for our market as well…
In the last few years, the Japanese automaker Yamaha has developed various motorcycles on the 155 platform that spawns the extremely popular R15. In India we only get the streetfighter MT15 (apart from the R15). One of the non-present motorcycle includes the retro classic XSR155.
The motorcycle inherits the design traits of the bigger XSR series and runs on a 155 cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine equipped with 4 valves and variable valve actuation (VVA) technology. The motor produces 19.3 PS of peak power at 10,000 rpm, and 14.7 Nm torque at 8500 rpm. If you find these figures familiar, this is the same engine that powers the R15.
In a latest update, the baby XSR has been launched in Philippines at a price tag of 162,000 PHP (Philippine Peso), which translates to about 2.47 Lakh in INR. In comparison, its sibling R15 is sold at 164,000 PHP (roughly 2.5 Lakh INR) there signifying a price difference of only Rs 3000.

How About This Yamaha ‘Katana’?
The XSR155 is already on sale in markets like Indonesia and Thailand and hence we have big hopes of Yamaha considering bringing this classic looker here in India. For reference, the R15 costs Rs 1,46,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). If a similar placement is replicated here, it can be sold at around Rs 1.40-1.45 Lac levels.

While there is no confirmation from the company yet we believe that the XSR155 has better chances of success than the MT15. And in the end, any addition to this 155 platform will only increase economies of scale!
