Will Yamaha’s R3 Get 320cc Crossplane Engine?

As if the latest luring updates on the Yamaha R25 were not killing, the bigger R3 teasers will ensure we plan for a robbery! Yamaha has got all guns blazing in full blast. While they recently launched the R25 in Indonesia, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has been increasingly working hard to maintain its good name in Europe and America.

While the quarter litre baby monster is targeted for Asian countries, rumors about a slightly bigger bike which may be called as ‘R3’ have been doing rounds for sometime now.

The new speculative bits coming from Tmcblog.com have started talking about the possibility of R3 sporting a 3 pot 320cc crossplane engine. While the R25 turned out to be a direct threat to the Ninja 250 and in some instances, being compared to the bigger Ninja 300, thanks to the small power difference, if the R3 indeed sees the light of the day, it surely is going to be a cracker of a motorcycle.

To give you an idea, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 houses a 296cc liquid cooled parallel twin engine, churning out 39PS of power @11000rpm and 27Nm of torque @10000rpm. Now imagine a Yamaha even more powerful than this! Yes, even we have goose bumps!!!

Also in target range will be the single cylinder Honda CBR 300R, which is rumored to be on its way to India as well.

Interestingly, back in January, Yamaha had applied for a patent in the European, UK and Australian trade mark offices for the name YZF-R3! Yamaha has also updated their Episode 3 at the Yamaha Rev Station webpage, which talks about the new Blue Core technology seen on the new FZ Version 2.0.
