Yamaha’s Press Conference on June 30; Is it the FZ V2 Launch?

Just as we opened our mailboxes today, we were surprised and pleased to see this media invite from Yamaha India for a press conference on Monday, June 30, 2014. The invitation reads as Yamaha ‘gears up to unveil a new chapter’.

People present in the conference will include Mr Masaki Asano, Managing Director & CEO of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd., Mr Hiroyuki Suzuki, Managing Director & CEO of India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd, Mr Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales & Marketing of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd.

What could be this new chapter? The first thing that came to my mind was the R25, but then logic prevailed, and I realized it may just not be the R25, so soon! Yamaha is having trouble meeting up to the strong demand in Indonesia itself, so there is absolutely no way they can export units to another country! Well, I would still keep my fingers crossed.

What’s more probable is the launch of the new FZ version 2.0. The new FZ has been spied a lot of times off late, and has even been seen uncamouflaged a few times. The bike will be getting a few design changes as well as some tinkering in the engine to churn out more power.

There is a big possibility that it will come with fuel injection and hence better throttle response and enhanced fuel efficiency. This will surely give it an edge against the upcoming 160cc from Honda and Gixxer from Suzuki.

However, the press meet could be something else/different as well. The last time Yamaha had sent an invitation like this, it turned out to be the unveiling of their child/traffic safety programme!
