The design patent filed by Vinfast in India appears to be of the new-gen Viper electric scooter, which could be the first company model to go on sale in our market
We earlier told you that Vinfast, the Vietnam-based pure EV brand, will start retailing electric scooters in the Indian market from the second half of 2026. Now, it has filed a design patent for one of the upcoming models in India, hinting at a launch in the coming months. However, it is not the Evo, Feliz or the Viper as earlier reported by the mainstream media, instead the patented electric scooter is not sold anywhere in the world. The close resemblance to the Viper indicates that it could be the new-gen model of the same.
Vinfast Viper, if launched in India, will be sold via the CKD route with local assembly taking place at the Thoothukudi factory in Tamil Nadu. The company has already made it clear that the e-scooters will be “tailored to suit local usage conditions and mobility habits in each market”. Therefore, earlier this year, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the state government of Tamil Nadu in this regard.
The design patent shows the electric scooter with LED headlights and integrated LED DRLs while the Vinfast branding is positioned lower. The front fender is quite sharper and the windscreen has been partially restyled for a fresh look as compared to the existing version of the Viper. The side body panels are also new while the bat-wing-like LED tail lamp cluster is also a new addition as it is not seen on the current-gen Viper.

Though the 14-inch alloy wheels of the present-gen model have been retained in the design patent along with the pillion seat, flat floorboard and foot pegs. Some of the notable features expected onboard the electric scooter are digital instrument cluster with TFT display, smart key system with keyless go, and 10L front storage area. It boasts of a rear hub-mounted motor setup.
As visible in the patent images, the Vinfast electric scooter gets telescopic front forks and gas-charged rear dual-shock shockers as standard suspension setup. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5 kWh fixed battery pack which returns a maximum range of 82 km on a single charge. The buyers can also opt for an additional 1.15 kWh secondary battery which for an extra range of 74 km.

If Vinfast at all launches this electric scooter in India with local production in place, it could become a really great alternative to the likes of Hero Vida VX2,TVS Orbiter V1 and Ola S1 X. The Vietnamese brand will price the e-scooter under Rs 1 lakh to attract maximum buyers. Presently, Vinfast retails electric cars in the Indian market.
