SCOOP: TVS ‘Fiero’ Making a COMEBACK…?

TVS Fiero branding has been patented by the company in a latest development. However, this time it has a different strategy with this brand…

The factories and boardrooms at TVS Motor would be bustling with a lot of activity with the kind of aggression the company currently is in. Very recently, we learnt that the brand may be up for the production version of the Zepplin cruiser. And it appears that the country’s third largest seller has another ace up its sleeve – the return of the popular FIERO moniker!

TVS used to sell Fiero under the 150cc segment in India when it was a partner with Suzuki. In fact, Fiero was the brand’s first 150cc motorcycle and only the second in India when it was launched in 2000. Though the motorcycle was not really a looker against the Pulsars and CBZs of that time, it was a very nice alternate in this segment, and fairly popular too. It had a very reliable engine and pretty good performance, mainly owing to its light weight.

TVS updated Fiero with new iterations, but it was discontinued with fading interest. However, it may be making a comeback! However, in a smaller avatar though!

In a latest development, TVS has filed for patents of “Fiero 125” and “TVS Fiero 125” trademarks just a few days back. Fresh applications clearly indicate that there is definitely something cooking and that ‘125’ tag suggests the likely capacity of the upcoming model.

TVS has not been able to set foot in the 125cc motorcycle segment despite multiple tries. However, with the renowned ‘Fiero’ brand, this may be its best salvo in this segment ever. Downgrading of the segment for the brand Fiero may be to prevent cannibalizations with TVS’ most popular brand – Apache. Stay tuned, stay alert – there will be some mules on the roads, soon….
