With the exception of Bajaj, all mainstream two-wheeler manufacturers in India have identified the scooter segment as the main growth driver and rightly so. This is precisely the reason we are witnessing a barrage of scooter launches and Yamaha is following suit.
After striking the chord with Fascino, Yamaha is preparing their next scooter for our market. Our reader Ram Shankar has shared with us an exclusive spotting of the upcoming scooter being tested in Chennai. He says that there was a clear Yamaha logo on the pillion grabrail and another one near the tail lamp, which were the clear giveaways.
Upon close observation this appears to be very similar to the Nozza Grande scooter Yamaha sells in few markets like Vietnam. There it sports a 125 cc motor which is good for 8.2 PS of peak power and 9.7 Nm of max torque and weighs only 99 kg. Even the alloy wheel design seem to be lifted. This mule was being benchmarked against Jupiter as well as Activa 110, which hints at the possibility of Yamaha plonking the 113 cc motor of their current range into this one as well.
This scooter could be a new top of the line in both the cases (one – if it is a 125cc or even if it is a 110 cc) in the portfolio. Apart from this, Yamaha is also testing the Fazer 250 for our market…
