Royal Enfield has ended this year on a high note with this latest announcement of its tie-up with Stark Future – a European electric vehicle start-up. The India based midsize motorcycle maker has invested €50 million (approx 440 crore INR) for 10.35 percent equity in Stark Future.

Royal Enfield-Stark Future Partnership

Stark Future has recently unveiled its debut motorcycle Stark VARG – which is a high performance electric motocross bike. Though deliveries are yet to commence it is touted to be a benchmark product on many fronts and has received a very favorable response from various stakeholders.

With this partnership Royal Enfield, it appears, is trying to scout for electric vehicle companies that look promising on leisure motorcycles and Stark Future fits the bill. In fact Siddharth Lal, Managing Director at Eicher Motors (parent company of Royal Enfield) specified that they expect Stark to provide ‘real breakthrough growth in the EV leisure space‘. He added that they are eyeing the potential use of this base to ‘extend into other segments and beyond’ – clear hints that there may be Royal Enfield electric products on shared platforms in the future.

B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, in fact, spilled the beans when he said…

While they are thought leaders in EV technology, particularly in light-weight components and innovative solutions, we at Royal Enfield will draw on these capabilities for developing our EV platforms and will also plan to share some EV platforms in the future

SPIED: Is That the Bigger Hunter…?

Now this gets real interesting here. Royal Enfield is aggressively pursuing its electric amibitions and says that it has made huge strides in the last few years. In fact, it has ‘several ideas’ in advanced stages of testing.

So, will we see differentiated products from RE in the EV space? Is a near motocross, high performance EV from Royal Enfield a possibility in the coming times…? Interesting prospects ahead…
