We had our eyes wide open and jaws dropped when we saw the Akula 310 concept at TVS’ stall at the Auto Expo 2016. It looked just fabulous. Apart from that TVS had on display ‘X21’ yet another concept motorcycle which was the racing version of the Apache 200 launched recently.
X21 featured very aggressive naked styling with all the emphasis on racing and performance. It had two oil cooling chambers (instead of one), twin straight flow air filters for cleaner combustion and 1 x 2 exhaust canisters which TVS tells us, are for the typical RTR grunt. X21 also got a half-fairing with no headlamps for better aerodynamics.
TVS has plonked a slightly bigger 212.4 cc four valve fuel injected engine on the X21. In terms of performance, the company claims a 0-100 kmph sprint in flat 8.7 seconds along with a top speed of 148 kmph. In comparison, the current Apache 200 does a 100 kmph dash in 12.1 seconds and a top whack of 129 kmph.
X21 features 280 mm petal disc brake with 2 piston callipers upfront and a 240 mm disc brake with a single piston at the rear. It came shod with 110/70 Michelin tyres at the front and 150/60 from the same brand at the rear – both 17 inchers.
The all-digital display instrument console features a speedometer, tripmeter, tachometer, clock, acceleration timing, lap timing etc. In addition, X21 sported flashy alloy wheels along with special race components like performance kit, race levers and steering damper which helps in stability and control specially at higher speed runs.

The purpose of displaying the X21 was to showcase the technical prowess of TVS and from an end-user’s point of view – the Apache 200 could have been this awesome!
