Process & Cost to Retrofit Slipper Clutch on Old Model RC390

KTM RC390 boasts of an immensely powerful engine, tech aids and affordability and its a motorcycle that has raised the bar for others in India on a lot of counts! Add to this, KTM’s constant stream of updates which are not merely cosmetic. While the Duke 390 gained slipper clutch in 2015, RC390 got it last year. Yes, we did miss out on ride by wire and Euro 4 compliant canister exhaust offered internationally, but still it remains the most value for money offering in the segment and by far!

But what about guys who bought an RC390 without slipper clutch? You may have read a lot of online reports about retro-fitting of slipper clutch on older RC390s but none of them pointed at any authentic source and hence we did NOT carry that piece. In order to find out the truth, I visited my nearest KTM store and workshop in Delhi and queried about this and bless thy soul the news is true!

KTM RC 390

As per the head technician KTM is indeed offering slipper clutch to owners of the older RC390s and here is the process.

Retrofit Slipper Clutch on Older RC390s:

  • One just needs to take their bike to the nearest service centre, and based on the bike’s chassis number order the setup from KTM directly after an advance payment of Rs 4,000.
  • After a wait of 10-12 days (yes, that’s how long they tell us, it will take for the necessary parts to arrive) head back to the service centre.
  • The second visit will take roughly 4 to 5 hours for the slipper clutch to be retrofitted in your old-model RC390.
