Bangalore headquartered ridesharing company; Ola sent ripples in the market when it announced that it will be launching electric two-wheelers in India. The company has been developing its first scooter, and it has been spotted testing on roads for the first time.
It is to be noted that Ola had acquired Netherlands based electric scooter company – Etergo, and the spied scooter is very similar to Etergo AppScooter. The scooter gets LED lighting package, TFT instrumentation, and is claimed to reach top speeds of over 100 km/h. Not only that, it is also expected to have a range of around 240 km per full charge, based on how many battery modules are used. It is believed that the AppScooter will have a similar banana-shaped removable lithium-ion battery pack that is also seen on the Etergo scooter. However, if we will get to see these figures and equipment in the production version is something that remains to be seen.
When launched, the electric scooter is will have the likes of Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube in its sights in the rapidly growing market. In terms of pricing, Ola is expected to price it aggressively, as it intends to be present on a wide scale in this business.
It is to be noted that the company has set up the world’s largest scooter manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, with an annual production capacity of whopping 2 million units.
