We are once again reporting the entrance of another player in the Indian EV market. This time it is Oben Electric who have introduced themselves through a small online press conference and have introduced their new entrant – RORR!
Oben Electric is an electric two-wheeler startup founded by IIT-Kharagpur and IIM-Bangalore alumni Mr. Dinkar Agrawal and Mrs. Madhumita Agrawal in August 2020. The founders boast a combined experience of more than 6 years in the domain and have created a core team with hands-on experience of more than 6 years.
They have shared their ambition of bringing four new electric motorcycles in the next two years, launching one every six months. At the conference they introduced their first electric motorcycle RORR, which, they announced, will launch in Q1 of 2022.
As it was just an introduction, not much information was shared about the new EV. The founders claim that the Rorr has been researched and designed indigenously and will provide a range of 200 km (IDC) on a single charge and will reach a top-speed of 100 km/h. The Rorr will have the 0-40 km/h time in 3 seconds and will get an IOT-enabled gamified mobile connectivity app.
Further sharing information, the founders iterated that they have backing from We Funders Circle and have received fresh funding from GVK Power & Infra, and IIFL Wealth among others.
Speaking during the conference, Mr. Dinkar Agrawal said –
“We have raised a total of $2.5 million through VC funding, which is the highest seed round raised by an E2W startup. This helps us innovate with a focus on consumer safety and delight. Our aim is to enable Indian consumers to make the shift from ICE to EV. Over the next few years, we intend to be a global player with our specialized products.”

Mrs. Madhumita Agrawal added –
“Oben Electric is geared-up with multi-level testing, durability, safety & connectivity to address a white space in the segment,”
“We have brought together a core team of experts who specialize in every aspect of the E2W life cycle. This has enabled us to go beyond assembling of vehicles to truly creating a product from scratch for the Indian consumer. We have researched pain-points consumer’s face, while riding or purchasing E2Ws and have created solutions accordingly”.
Yet another day, yet another EV player with a product that looks impressive on paper. Let’s hope Oben delivers on its promises…
