To avoid congestion on the road Mumbai Police Commissioner has instructed the traffic police department not to stop road users for checking vehicle documents.

The traffic police on duty should focus on monitoring the traffic movement in the route. Only in the situation of traffic rule violation, the traffic police has the right to stop the vehicle and check the documents or do the needful as per the regulations.

For mere suspicion, the traffic police of Mumbai cannot stop and demand the documents from a motorist. Mumbai traffic is quite infamous for long queues and congested lanes.

Upon frequent complaints from motorists, Mumbai Police Commissioner has issued this new regulation.

It has further been stated that upon any event of joint nakabandi with RTO or local police, the traffic police will bind to the new regulation and won’t stop anyone to check vehicle documents.
