After R15 v3, 2018 Yamaha R3 ABS Starts Reaching Dealerships

2018 Yamaha R3 price is very competitive, considering the added features and what the competition offers in this 300 cc twin cylinder segment…

After introducing the beautiful R15 v3 for our market, Yamaha had kept another surprise for the third day of the Auto Expo; they re-launched the R3 in India and it becomes the most competent motorcycle in this segment.

The 2018 R3 comes with dual channel ABS as well as the super sticky Metzeler M5 tyres (in place of MRFs of the older version). The big change is the engine which is BS4 compliant now. The 321 cc, parallel twin, four valve motor produces 42 PS of peak power at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of maximum torque at 9000 rpm. The six-speed gearbox continues to perform duty.

There has been a marginal hike in the price of the motorcycle but you get dual-channel ABS as well as Metzeler tyres which were not on offer in the older model.

Yamaha is offering the 2018 R3 in two colour choices – Magma black and Racing blue. With this, R3 undercuts the Ninja 300 (which does not have ABS) and is priced at par with the new Benelli 302R.

In a latest update, after a month of its first announcement, the motorcycle has started reaching dealerships as suggested by a few pics on this page (credit Omkar Surya).

It will be very interesting to see how things pan out in this segment, specially when Kawasaki is also expected to release the bigger Ninja 400 in India (in place of the 300) sometime soon!

Earlier this month, we tested the new more powerful R15 v3 at the Chennai Race Track – you can read its first ride review here.
