Honda’s New Launches May Get Impacted Because of COVID-19

Top official reveals that almost all the plans will be reviewed by the company once the lockdown is lifted. This may impact Honda’s new launches…

Like others, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India is also caught in this uncertainty due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was the first major two-wheeler manufacturer to commence retail sales of a Bharat Stage 6 product – which was the new 2020 Activa 125.

So far it has converted six of its high sellers to BS6 but owing to a large portfolio of products, this also means that it is one of the makers with a long list of pending models (list here). It was already cleared by the company that few products will be dropped in this process which are not adding to its sales numbers.

In a new update, Y S Guleria, Director (sales and marketing, HMSI) said that the company will replan and realign a lot of things due to this unprecedented crisis which has resulted in the whole country being locked down. None of the company’s factory is operation at this point of time. He added that all developments are being monitored closely.

Various slow sellers like the CBR250R were axed in this transition…

New product development, network expansion, capacity utilization – all of this will now depend on how things pan out post the lockout period. A lot will also depend on when will it be lifted and if there will be some economic package by the government to revive the auto sector and the economy as a whole.

This may mean that a lot of products that are waiting to be updated to BS6 may get delayed and it could also impact new launches and investments that were scheduled prior to this Coronavirus pandemic.
