BIG: Honda Overtakes Bajaj in Motorcycle Sales; Now The Second Largest Motorcycle Seller

Honda vs Bajaj Motorcycle sales for the last quarter of this financial year report a big big surprise. The Jap has zoomed past the Indian maker…

This has been a remarkable show by Honda! Till now Bajaj was the second largest selling motorcycle maker in India, after Hero MotoCorp. Honda was a fair bit behind Bajaj, at the third spot.

In a big turn of events Honda has overtaken Bajaj as the second largest motorcycle seller in this first quarter of this financial year 2024-25 registering a massive growth of more than 70 percent. And, all of this, it has done extremely silently! Let us take a quick look at the numbers..

Honda 3,62,790 units

As you can see Honda was behind Bajaj by almost 1.60 Lakh units last year in motorcycle sales. Flip to the current year and here are the numbers..

Can Freedom CNG help Bajaj to fight back?

Look at that! Bajaj added roughly 17,000 units in the first quarter of this financial year – a growth of about 3 percent. On the other hand, without any hullabaloo, Honda registered a whopping growth of over 70 percent and added over 2.56 Lakh motorcycles to its tally in the three months under consideration!

Honda CB300R vs CB300F – Which One Sells More?

From being down by 1.6 Lakh units, Honda is now ahead of Bajaj by more than 80,000 units in motorcycle sales in the first quarter of this fiscal. In fact, Honda was the biggest contributor to the overall motorcycle sales swelling in this period.

Honda was always good in scooters, however, motorcycles was definitely a problematic area for the brand. But it seems, it has found its way out and that seems to be working for it. In fact, as I had discussed few days back, 2024 could be the year when Honda could finally beat Hero to become the overall number one 2-wheeler manufacturer in India – a big big achievement – that it had been eyeing for so long! But the question is can it sustain the momentum for the full year? Can Freedom CNG be the game changer for Bajaj?
